What better way to brighten a cloud covered, rainy day than a blog post about Jordan with Blum Floral Design. A few years ago I worked with Jordan for the first time and I have been raving about her ever sense.  Jordan has a modern sense of style, yet the ability to take a vision of any style and bring it to life. Her sweet, caring and personable personality and quality customer service is a definite added bonus. Named “Best Florist in Portland” by Oregon Bride last year [Don’t forget to vote for your favorite vendors for best of 2010 here]…I give you Blum Floral Design

Champagne: When/why did you decide you wanted to be a florist?
Jordan: My first florist job was working part time at Jary’s Flowers in Salem while I was in college.  Right away I realized how much I loved being surrounded by such a beautiful product but even more than that getting to be a part of so many pivotal moments in people’s lives.  With that said, it wasn’t until I was working in London [after college] that I decided to make floristry my career.  Mary Jane’s [my boss] enthusiasm and insights were completely inspiring and her flowers were GORGEOUS!  It was there that I also learned to love weddings!

Champagne: What is the favorite part of your job?
Jordan: After a long day [or week, or year!] of hard work, handing a bride her bouquet and seeing her tear up with happiness.  That’s the best!

Champagne: What should brides know when looking for a florist?
Jordan:  Referrals, recommendations and websites should be a great, and fairly easy, way to get a feel for which florists you’d like to visit.  Once you’ve selected a few florists to schedule consultations with, make sure to have a few ideas [magazine cutouts, colors, etc.] that you know you love.  That will help to give a florist a good idea of what you’re looking for and the proposal they send out will be more accurate in terms of both aesthetic and pricing.  Something we offer is a mock-up of centerpieces for the reception. This gives everyone a chance to tweak, perfect and feel comfortable knowing what the flowers will look like well in advance of the big day.  I think that’s a very important step for most clients and is a service that should be asked about.

Champagne: What’s your favorite flower?
Jordan: I feel like I never have a good answer for this question!! Right at this moment I’d LOVE to have a little bud vase of lily of the valley on my desk. I think it’s because I’m craving Spring.  They smell so, so good and somehow give me shivers because I think they’re so special.  In the spring I’ll have them scattered all over my house and work so I can smell and see them everywhere I am.  A scented candle will never do the real thing justice!

Champagne: How would you describe your style?
Jordan: Classic, clean, and soft.  My favorite arrangements have only a few types of flowers but lots of blossoms.  Like an arrangement of all burgundy peonies and fuchsia garden roses.  Or a clear glass vase with all white tulips.  Perhaps a centerpiece of multiple white milk glass bud vases of the lily of the valley I’m currently craving.  Simple.  But LOTS of simple.  : - )

Champagne: Anything else you’d like brides to know?
Jordan: Ironically, not to feel the pressure to know everything!  Sometimes too much information is too much information.  Hire quality professionals you enjoy and trust.  Listen to their advice and collaborate with them.  We’ve been doing this for years, we love flowers, we love weddings and we love a happy ending. That’s the bottom line. : - )

Champagne: Thank you Jordan, for sharing more about Blum Floral Design! We look forward to working with you soon! Make sure to check out Blum Floral Design’s website and see what they’ve been up to on the blog!
