Day 15 of 30: Byron Roe Photography
We are half way in our 30 days of vendors segment! Hope you’re enjoying getting know just a few of the many fabulous vendors we know! Day 15 we’re getting to know Byron Roe Photography! Meet Byron and Wendy!
Champagne: Tell us a little about Byron Roe Photography…
Byron Roe Photography: Well first and foremost, we’re a full-time husband and wife photography team that works with lovable couples to capture their unique, inspired wedding. Wendy and I are truly passionate about getting to know our fun, outgoing couples and documenting the “moments within moments” of their wedding journey. By focusing on the experience and helping our clients feel instantly at ease, we are able to photograph more of those natural moments. Our work is a combination of fashion-forward, dramatic portraits of our couples in tandem with the site unseen photojournalism of the ceremony. Typically half of our couples are non-local and we travel internationally and around the Pacific Northwest for weddings regularly.
Success to us and our biggest compliment is when we can become friends with our clients and capture their uniqueness in a way that is timeless and beautiful.

Champagne: How did you decide to get into photography?
Byron Roe Photography: We finally decided to no longer be afraid of the “what if’s” in life. We took the chance to do something, that deep in our hearts, we knew was right. I began shooting in high school (for the yearbook of course!) and Wendy studied photography and graphic design/multimedia in college. We’ve both been drawn to the arts and to people - photography has been the best way to express that passion. Several years ago I made the big jump and immediately felt connected to couples getting married. Wendy joined as a second shooter and full time in early 2010. There’s something so exciting about being in the moment and producing an image that shares those moments our clients are creating. It’s what drives us everyday.

Champagne: How would you describe your style?
Byron Roe Photography: Our photography is inherently dynamic, capturing movement and emotion. Even though it’s a still, it’s about showing life. Documenting moments within moments in a simple, powerful way is what we try to capture on every shoot. We want images that POP and reveal color, simplicity and expression. Clients describe our work as being: artsy, dynamic and fashion forward.

Champagne: What would be your dream person/event to photograph?
Byron Roe Photography: More than a single person or couple, our dream weddings have spectacular locations and couples that tend to be more outgoing and playful. Typically half of our couples are non-local and we travel internationally and around the Pacific Northwest for weddings regularly but would love to incorporate the beautiful locations of France, Asia, Canada, (and of course another in Italy & Mexico for sure!!), in upcoming weddings! Those are on our bucket list for 2011.

Champagne: What’s your favorite part about your job?
Byron Roe Photography: Hands down it’s our clients. Interacting with them, laughing, crying, putting them at ease…just meeting new people is definitely one of the best parts about our job. Sharing one of the biggest days in their lives with them in a personal, meaningful way, it just doesn’t get any better than that. Oh…and traveling to Italy and Mexico or others to capture, that is the icing on the cake.

Champagne: To you, what is key to creating a successful event?
Byron Roe Photography: When we know our clients are able to truly be in the moment during their wedding day because they know that we have their best interest in mind is the key to creating a successful wedding and beautiful pictures. To have our clients know that we are there exclusively for them. Because that is so important, and we want our clients confident and comfortable with us ahead of time, we include an engagement session in every collection - it’s a fun ‘warm-up’ if you will! Success to us is also making sure that the focus of the wedding day is on our bride and groom. There’s really nothing more flattering to us than to have our clients say, “Wow, these images are absolutely fantastic but I don’t ever remember seeing you take them”.

Champagne: What do you do when you’re not doing what you do?
Byron Roe Photography: Both of us are outdoorsy adventurers, which is why we are based out of beautiful Bend, Oregon. Everything from mountain/road biking, to rock climbing at Smith Rocks or XC skiing on Mt. Bachelor, we love the fresh air. If I’m not playing outside or working inside, just hanging with my wife, Wendy and our dog Miles does the trick.

Champagne: What sets you apart from other photographers?
Byron Roe Photography: I’m a people person and find that images are directly related to who I am and how Wendy and I interact with each other and our clients. Being open-minded, witty and full of energy helps set us apart from other photographers and helps our clients feel at ease instantaneously. When there is space to feel at ease, natural smiles and laughs create beautiful pictures. If that’s not enough, we have a whole page on our web site exclusively to what makes us different- view it here!

Champagne: Is there anything else you’d like our readers to know?
Byron Roe Photography: Another sweet touch that sets us a part is our ongoing love letter series on our blog. It’s where our couples often choose to write a short, sweet note to their spouse-to-be (for an engagement session) or the parents, maid of honor or best man write a toast to the bride and groom (for a wedding). It’s a great way to share your story in your own voice and pair it with the engagement or wedding images.

Great pick…I love their pictures! I’ve shared Byron and Wendy’s information with a lot of my friends, most of whom are trying to invent an occasion worthy of hiring them. I enjoyed the interview, thanks!
