Get tip-sy!

We are starting a new segment on the blog, where every Tuesday will share random tip! Enjoy!

Today’s Tip:

If you are doing DIY projects try your best to get all your projects done the week before the wedding. You will have friends and family coming into town and that is an important time to spend relaxing with those you love, not feeling stressed about projects. Then you can take a huge sigh, look at all your incredible work and all you have to think about is marrying your best friend!

Happy Planning!

Cheers,
Robin & the Champagne team

Love Story: Lexi & Nick

2 Comments • Posted by Champagne on February 11, 2011

One of our favorite parts of getting to know our couples, is to hear all about their love story and proposal! We’ll be interviewing a few of our couples over the next few weeks and sharing with you, a little glimpse inside their love story and a peak at their engagement photos! Today, Lexi and Nick are sharing their story! Enjoy!!

How they met:

Sixth period Spanish class freshman year at Jesuit High School, the seating chart gods put Nick right in front of Lexi, where in his attempts to make conversation with her, he found himself getting kicked out of class. The moments when he was able to stick around for the whole period, the two began a friendship. Though he thought his chances were good, it turned out he needed to “grow up” (Nick 5’2” while Lexi stood a towering 5’3”) a bit and wouldn’t get a real opportunity for another year.

Fast forward a year later, Spring Break of Sophomore year: A taller, more confident Nick hit it off with Lexi as their families were both vacationing in Palm Springs.  Lexi decided to give Nick a chance, and their relationship began as high school sweethearts.

After luck brought them both to Gonzaga University (Lexi knew it was her first choice, while Nick flipped a coin in May), their relationship grew.

How long they’ve been together:

Almost 9 years.

The day he proposed:
6.26.2010

How he popped the question:

Hoopfest: The largest 3 vs. 3 basketball tournament in the world, hosted on the streets of Spokane, WA, around the corner from Gonzaga University, was the site of the proposal. It was there after a full day of basketball, Nick asked Lexi to marry him. She would later say that with all the male-oriented distractions, the thought of proposal was far from her mind.

Per Lexi’s suggestion, Nick “ordered” a pizza for dinner from a place next to the campus. He acquired the help of friends to create a ploy so that he could get Lexi’s help alone to pick up the pizza.  After strolling around the campus, reminiscing about the great times they had at Gonzaga, Nick walked Lexi to the proposal spot and had her sitting there talking about their favorite Gonzaga memories. The spot (Aluminum Jesus, aka AJ) was directly between Nick’s dorm, DeSmet, and Lexi’s dorm, Welch, and it was there that Nick asked Lexi to marry him.

At what moment did you know he was the one?

I knew Nick was the one when he would insist on walking to downtown Spokane (before we had cars our sophomore year at Gonzaga) in the dead of winter in a foot of snow so I wouldn’t have to walk back from work alone in the dark. Nick is still as sweet, selfless and generous as he was 5 years ago, and will bend over backwards to put my needs in front of his.

At what moment did you know she was the one?

My sophomore year in college one of my coaches asked me if having a girlfriend was distraction to me during soccer season. I explained how supportive she has always been with my soccer career and studies, and how natural our relationship is. I told him that she was really the best friend I could ask for and that I loved having her around. In short – she was not a distraction, but a positive influence on my life. As I think back on that conversation now, I realize I was describing some of the best qualities of her and our relationship, and really it just reaffirms what I know now – she’s an amazing person who I love with all my heart and can’t wait to marry.

What are you most excited about on the wedding day?

Lexi: Where to start? There are so many! To see everything put together… My wedding dress! And to be married to Nick of course : )

Nick: The words “I now pronounce you husband and wife” making it official. While we’ve been to lots of parties together as a couple, I can’t wait to celebrate at the reception with Lexi as my wife for the first time.

Day 27 of 30: Petalos Floral Design

Day 27, Meet Stephanie with Petalos Floral Design!

Champagne: When and why did you decide you wanted to be a florist?

Petalos Floral Design: I’ve always LOVED playing with flowers.  My earliest memories are of watching my mom making arrangements for the house and her teaching me.  As I got older, I took every opportunity to take floral classes.  Fast forward to 2009.  I married my best friend; I gave birth to my son, Deacon; and I came upon a crossroad of whether to pursue a career change.  I really missed the creative, out-of-the-box thinking of my architecture experience along with the joy I felt while making floral arrangements.  Given my love for design, my passion for flowers and my ability to work with my hands, I started P E T A L O S [floral design] in January of 2010.

Champagne: What is the favorite part of your job?

Petalos Floral Design: I enjoy the challenge of designing something new and creative for each of my brides. Playing around with different color combinations … finding the right floral palette to achieve the perfect texture and look … I’m like a kid at the candy store—eyes wide open and ready to go for it!

Champagne: What should brides know when looking for a florist?

Petalos Floral Design: Don’t settle!  It’s important to find someone who sees and understands your vision.  Keep in mind, its great when you can provide us with photos and details to your wedding to see the overall look you’re trying to achieve. (i.e. your wedding gown, your venue space(s), your something old, new and blue items, etc.)

Champagne: What’s your favorite flower?

Petalos Floral Design: It’s a tie.  They’re almost complete opposites, but I would say peonies and orchids. Peonies are lush, fragrant and so feminine.  Orchids are colorful, sensual and have a distinct structure to them.

Champagne: How would you describe your style?

Petalos Floral Design: Currently, I would describe my style as contemporary with some vintage flare, versatile and filled with texture.  There are so many things that influence my design process, and my work definitely becomes a reflection of that.  For example, I’ve always been inspired by the glamour of old Hollywood and architecture so I try to interpret that into my designs whenever possible.

Champagne: What do you do, when you’re not doing what you do?

Petalos Floral Design: Play dates with my son.  Hosting dinner parties.  Cooking.  Wine tasting.  Going to the mountain. Concerts. Trying out new local restaurants with my husband.  Most of all, I love spending time with my family.

Champagne: Is there anything else you’d like brides to know?

Petalos Floral Design: Don’t overwhelm yourself with DYI projects.  DYI projects are a great way to add personal touches to your wedding, but too many will make you lose track of what your wedding is really about—a C E L E B R A T I O N.  So remember to have fun, relax, cry (yes, it’s okay to cry), dance, and if you like, have a drink before the ceremony!  Take it all in and embrace the day.

I guess you could call it, “our motto”!

4 Comments • Posted by Champagne on January 14, 2011

A few months ago, we did a photo shoot with Honeysuckle Photography! This photo shoot was to capture a few of the many things that a bride, her bridesmaids or family may end up doing if there was no planner. From carrying chairs to making the floral arrangements and more! This idea came to mind, when as a bride, I had a nightmare of having to carry all of the chairs downstairs in my wedding dress on my wedding day! Of course that didn’t happen, but I had a wedding planner! Yes- even a professional wedding planner needs a wedding planner on the day of her wedding!! We were working on ideas for our ad in Portland Bride & Groom magazine and that’s when our new motto came to mind. It’s fun, it’s a little daring and a little sassy, but meant with a little seriousness, as we will do it all! From the coordinating of vendors, the set up, to the “dirty work”. So what’s our new motto? “Let us do the dirty work!”
Here’s our ad, which is in the current issue of Portland Bride & Groom magazine! Make sure to pick up your copy!
