Champagne: When/how did you decide you wanted to me a makeup/hair artist?

Face Body Beauty: I have always had a passion for makeup & hair, even as a little girl! I would daydream about doing makeup but never really realized I could make a career out of it until I was in college.

While I was pursuing my bachelors degree, classmates would comment on my makeup and eventually I was doing makeup and hair for girls when they had dates and dances! I loved it and started researching ways I could incorporate this into my career!

For me, working with brides was the ultimate and I couldn’t imagine anything more fun and rewarding. After getting my bachelors degree, I went back to beauty school and started my business. I knew I was meant for it and have loved every minute. As my business grew, I started adding to my team of artists. I have been blessed with an amazingly talented and fun group of artists.

Champagne: What’s your favorite part about your job?

Face Body Beauty: There are many things I love about my job but nothing is better than knowing I have helped a woman feel beautiful and confident about the way she looks. Watching someone stand a little taller and carry themselves more confidently is an amazing thing to witness and the main reason I do what I do.

For years I have been volunteering with organizations that help young ladies build confidence and healthy body image. Makeup has an amazing way of making a woman feel polished and beautiful. I help these young ladies by teaching them proper technique and age appropriate makeup. It has a huge and immediate impact on the way they carry themselves and the way they see themselves. This is tremendously rewarding and something I am very proud of.

Champagne: I do my hair and makeup every day, why do I need it done professionally?

Face Body Beauty: I do see a lot of ladies that do a nice job on their daily makeup but your wedding day is not just another day. It is one of the most important days of your life and you should feel your most beautiful. A professional artist can take your every day look to the next level and still have you feeling and looking like yourself.

We have all seen pictures of brides with bad makeup and hair. No amount of retouching can change this.  By hiring a professional artist you can be sure you will love the way you look on your wedding day and in your pictures, for years to come.

A bride must look flawless in person as well as in pictures, which is yet another reason hiring a professional is so important. There are many factors that must be taken into consideration when doing bridal makeup and hair.  Just a few of these include her unique features and style, color of her dress, lighting, and timing of the ceremony.

Champagne: We’ve had brides say they don’t want to get their hair/makeup done professionally because they don’t think they look like themselves, what’s your response to this?

Face Body Beauty: This is a very common concern. Unfortunately, many women have had bad experiences at a makeup counter and it makes them hesitant to have it done again. Hiring a professional artist is much different than going to a makeup counter.

It is important to research and find an artist that suites your style and personality. This way you won’t have to worry about not looking like yourself. I highly recommend doing a trial run with your chosen artist to make sure you are happy with your look.

I always listen closely to my clients and ask questions to make sure we are on the same page.  I have had brides who wanted to wear only lip gloss and mascara and others who wanted a super smokey and dramatic looks.  My goal is to help them bring their vision to life.

Champagne: How would you describe your style?

Face Body Beauty: The words I would use to describe my style are “fresh faced”, “romantic” and “timeless”.
I love to draw attention to the eyes and create a natural glow on the face.

Champagne: Lets say a bride uses Bare Minerals, do you have something that would work for them?

Face Body Beauty: Yes! I use many different lines of mineral and non-mineral cosmetics. I work with a wide variety of skin types and skin pigments so I have something for everyone! I primarily use MAC cosmetics but do also use Stilla, Mineralogie, Laura Mercier, NARS and Makeup Forever.

Champagne: What do you do, when you’re not doing, what you do?

Face Body Beauty: I am a new Mommy!! My son is 6 months old and he fills me with joy every minute of every day!

I am passionate about working with young ladies to help them develop healthy confidence and body image. This is something I hope to spend even more time doing this year.

I love to read and especially love library books. My Mom always took me to the library as a youngster so there is just something about how they smell and feel that I just love! I
can’t wait to take my son to the library and do story time and pick out fun new books to read.

I very much enjoy the outdoors and love to go on walks and hikes with my husband, son and our big dog, Cash!

Bella Via: Simply Stunning

0 Comments • Posted by Champagne on April 22, 2011

When I first walked into Bella Via I instantly fell in love! The warm gold tones along with the cool gray really allows the space to be whatever style you want it to be! To showcase the space I wanted to create a mock wedding so brides could envision how their wedding could look!  To do this we decided to go with the tones of the room and create something simple and clean, with white and silver and gold accents.  We carried this look throughout the whole venue and chose a very classic look from a simple elegant cake to white roses and lilies to the brides hair and makeup. We hope this is able to give you an idea of what Bella Via can look like, but also not overwhelm you with one color verse another or style, so you are able to envision what fits your unique style!  This tones make the beauty of the space shine through from the crystal chandeliers to the silver and gold and silver accented wallpaper.

A huge thank you to all the vendors involved:
Venue: Bella Via

Tipsy Tuesday #8:

It’s not too late. For what you may ask? Well, for one, I hear a few fabulous venues have had prime dates this summer open up, so it’s not too late to get your boyfriend to propose and get married this summer!
Haha!
I’m not sure we want to be putting the pressure on that one! I remember waiting for my boyfriend [now husband] to propose… I thought it would never happen! Now, less than a year since he proposed, we’ve been married for almost 5 months! Oh, how time flies! One thing I couldn’t have done without is a wedding planner!!
What?
Why would a wedding planner NEED a wedding planner???
Well you see, no matter how organized and on top of things you are, the need for at least a day of wedding planner is just as much- if not more important- to you enjoying your wedding day and the days leading up to it! Whether you are getting married next week, next month or next year, it’s not too late to hire a wedding planner!!

More details on how hiring at least a Day of Wedding Planner can help you coming up on tomorrow’s blog post!

Cheers,

The Champagne Team

Evrim Icoz Photography

We’re starting the week off with a post about Evrim Icoz Photography! We’ve been working with Evrim for years! He’s not only wonderful to work with, but is extremely talented! Enjoy getting to know Evrim and a small sampling of his beautiful work!

Champagne: How did you decide to get into photography?

Evrim Icoz Photography: I was a software engineer at Intel and even though I loved being an engineer, I felt like what I did day to day had no real effect in the world. In that mind set of trying to make a change in people’s lives, I got in to photography by photographing dancers. I am an avid swing dancer and always wanted to do something artistic. Being a photographer was a natural transition as I have a degree in engineering from Duke university and my grandfather was a professional photographer.

Champagne: How would you describe your style?

Evrim Icoz Photography: My style is fun, artistic and photojournalistic. My goal is to capture the beautiful and touching moments that happen in an artistic way. I love a sense of dynamism and motion in my pictures, and I am a very romantic person being Mediterranean so I think it reflects into my style. My influences were 40’s 50’s French documentary photographers so their sense of realism and romance translate in to my photography as well.

image

Champagne: What would be your dream person/event to photograph?

Evrim Icoz Photography: If I could, I would have loved to photography my parents or my grandparents wedding. Of course it is not possible. However, maybe one of the important events in the past, such as I Have a Dream speech, or something like that.

image

image

Champagne: What’s your favorite part about your job?

Evrim Icoz Photography: People. I love people. That is one of the reasons I left Intel, I didn’t like being in a cubicle. Turkish people are very social and I love the social part of my job and the fact that I am documenting one of the most important parts of people’s lives and creating memories that will be forever with them.

image

image

Champagne: To you, what is key to creating a successful event?

Evrim Icoz Photography: Great vendors, and good attitude and a loving family/guests. Great experienced friendly vendors such as yourself will make sure the event goes smoothly. And if the couple can relax the day of the wedding, they will have way more fun. Something will go wrong inevitably, but my clients that seem to enjoy their day the most are the ones that let that kind of stuff roll of their back. And a wedding planner will make sure the day will run smoothly. I always ask my clients “Who is your wedding planner?”. I think a planner is a must for such a big day.

image
image

Champagne: What do you do when you’re not doing what you do?

Evrim Icoz Photography: I do swing and blues dancing, travel (been to Japan, Mexico, Canada, Turkey last year!), go wine tasting, cook and play soccer.

image

image

Champagne: What sets you apart from other photographers?

Evrim Icoz Photography: I think it is my passion for what I do, my years of experience and constantly striving to make sure my clients have a great experience with me. My style is very artistic and that is something my clients love, and if you combine that with how much I care about my clients, I believe I create an immense value for them. For me, the most important thing is that they keep enjoying their photos and 20 years later when they look at their wedding album with their children, they say “I am glad we hired him”. I have a very important job that day, and I take it very seriously. We have many backup lenses, cameras, and we go over details ahead of time - this is what separates the experienced photographers. In addition, my roots are in B&W dark room, so I spend 15-20 hours editing the photographs, much more than most photographers. I really enjoy bringing the best out of my images. When I am editing, I am careful not to make super trendy images that will look like 80’s hairdos 10 years later, but more of a timeless, classic yet modern look.

Champagne: Is there anything else you’d like our readers to know?

Evrim Icoz Photography: I have a masters degree in Computer engineering from Duke University and I left a career at Intel to follow my passion of photography. I do a lot of destination weddings such as Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Cabo, Istanbul, Hawaii, Dominican Republic. I just opened a new portrait studio where I am doing a lot of children’s portraiture and headshots. I shoot a lot of corporate events for Microsoft as well. We limit the number of weddings we do to make sure our clients get a lot of our time.

Here are a few of the awards Evrim has won:
Oregon Bride Magazine 2009 Wedding Vendor of the Year
Wedding Photojournalist Association 2006 PJ Photographer of the Year (USA)
Wedding and Portrait Photographers International 1st Place Winner 2007, 2004

Tipsy Tuesday #6

Tipsy Tuesday #6:

Drink lots of water!  Drink water prior to your wedding day, but also especially on the day of.  Often brides are busy getting ready and enjoying all the excitement, but it’s important to stay hydrated so you have the energy to celebrate.

_______________________________________________________________________

Tipsy Tuesday #5:

When searching for your wedding vendors:

1) Pick no more than 3 of your favorites to meet with in each category to start. If you don’t feel like one of those are the right match, make a list of pros/cons and then go back to the drawing board from there! Picking too many vendors to meet with in each category can make the decisions overwhelming.

2) Ask your planner, friends, family and co-workers if they have any suggestions for vendors.

3) When looking on Google and other planning resources, many times vendors are alphabetized or ranked for various reasons, don’t stop with the first at the list, make sure you choose people to meet with that you feel meet your style, personality and budget!

Tipsy Tuesday # 4:

Writing your vows for your wedding can without a doubt be one of the most nerve-racking parts of preparing for the big day.  It’s the most personal part of your ceremony.  Here are a few ideas to get you started on the writing process as well as other steps you could take to make sure the vows will be just perfect for you and your groom.

Write down a few questions and use the answers to those questions as parts of your vows.
For example:

What do you love most about your partner?
When did you first know you were in love and why?
What is the most fun you have ever had with your fiancée, favorite memory?
What are you looking forward to in your life ahead when you will be married?
Is this the person you always dreamed of and why?
What do you want to promise always and forever you will be to your future spouse?
How does your partner bring out the best in you?

After you have completed your vows make sure there is nothing in them that could offend anyone at the ceremony or upset your future spouse?  Try and make it so you have both written vows about the same length and keep that length short.  You don’t want to bore everyone in attendance with super long intimate details probably only you and your partner should know.  Practice them in front of someone you trust and if you would like to have a cheat sheet at the ceremony, go for it.  Nerves will start to affect your emotions and memory, so a written copy is always a great idea to have on hand.

_______________________________________________________________________

Tipsy Tuesday #3:

Use a planning timeline/checklist in the planning process.  Timelines help keep you on track so you don’t forget any important details; they keep your organized.  Using a checklist means you get to check things off as you finish them which is always a wonderful feeling!  You alleviate stress, feel successful, and know you are putting together the perfect wedding!

_______________________________________________________________________

Tipsy Tuesday #2:

Be intentional about taking the time to greet all your guests at your wedding.  Whether this be a receiving line or making it around the room during the reception, find the time to say hi to all your guests. All of those people are there because you have asked them to be and they obviously matter to you so you should treat them accordingly and show them your appreciation for the role they have played in supporting your life and future.

_______________________________________________________________________

Tipsy Tuesday #1:

If you are doing DIY projects try your best to get all your projects done the week before the wedding. You will have friends and family coming into town and that is an important time to spend relaxing with those you love, not feeling stressed about projects. Then you can take a huge sigh, look at all your incredible work and all you have to think about is marrying your best friend!
